Indican
The level of indican is an index of the efficiency of protein digestion. Compromised protein digestion (amino acid digestion) can be caused by insufficient gastric hydrochloric acid, insufficient digestive enzymes, adverse food reactions, parasitic infections, fungal infections, an overgrowth of bacteria, hypermobility of the small intestines and/or other gastrointestinal dysfunctions. When protein is not completely digested, putrefaction (rotting of the protein) will occur which can produce dozens of carcinogens. These substances can then enter the liver through the general circulation causing increased stress and toxicity to the whole body. Poor protein digestion can lead to impaired nutrient absorption causing problems with blood sugar, hormonal balance and other system breakdowns. Eventually one becomes susceptible to chronic degenerative disorders including gastrointestinal disease and cancer.
Lipid Peroxides
The level of lipid peroxides is an index of cellular membrane damage due to the action of free radicals. Elevated levels of lipid peroxides indicates damage to the cell wall which will eventually lead to chronic degenerative diseases. Diseases associated with elevated lipid peroxides include coronary artery disease and cancer. Elevated lipid peroxides can result from exposure to toxins, pathogens, inappropriate lifestyle factors (smoking, stress, excessive alcohol consumption), excessive exercise or by-products of normal metabolism. Proper free radical control is essential to good health.
Urinary Sulfates
The measurement of sulfates reflects the liver's potential to neutralize toxic metabolic byproducts. The level of sulfates is an index of the capacity for phase II liver detoxification. If the byproducts are not neutralize by liver detoxification, undesirable compounds continue to circulate in the blood causing cellular damage. Low protein diets, indigestion, malabsorption and exposure to toxic chemicals can lead to depletion of urinary sulfate, which in turn can lead to chronic illness.
